IBP bank­ing awards to­day


KARACHI—Pak­istan’s 28 banks will com­pete in 8 cat­e­gories for the coun­try’s first bank­ing awards to be held on 13th May un­der the aegis of In­sti­tute of Bankers Pak­istan (IBP). The awards are be­ing or­ga­nized in col­lab­o­ra­tion with A.F. Fer­gu­son & Co., a mem­ber of PwC Global Net­work.

The jury of the awards in­clude: Syed Salim Raza For­mer Gover­nor, State Bank of Pak­istan, Fuad Hashimi Pres­i­dent & CEO, Pak­istan In­sti­tute of Cor­po­rate Gov­er­nance, Nar­gis Ghallo Chair­per­son, State Life In­sur­ance Cor­po­ra­tion of Pak­istan, She­hzad Naqvi For­mer Re­gional Head, Citibank Mid­dle East & Pak­istan, and Azhar Hameed For­mer Bank­ing Mo­hta­sib Pak­istan and For­mer Coun­try Head, SCB Pak­istan.

“This is the very first bank­ing awards in the his­tory of Pak­istan and 28 banks are par­tic­i­pat­ing in the event. We will try to in­clude more fi­nan­cial in­sti­tu­tions in the next bank­ing awards as this awards func­tion will be or­ga­nized on yearly ba­sis”, said Chief Ex­ec­u­tive IBP Hus­sain Lawai while ad­dress­ing a press con­fer­ence here.

He added the ar­eas to be re­warded in­clude fi­nan­cial in­clu­sion, cus­tomer con­ve­nience, tech­nol­ogy in bank­ing, Is­lamic bank­ing, trade fi­nance in­clud­ing SME and agri­cul­ture. Ali Has­san, the co-or­ga­nizer, said that the bank­ing is one of those sec­tors which have per­formed tremen­dously well over the years but its achieve­ments have not been rec­og­nized that is why bank­ing awards are be­ing or­ga­nized.

‘The jury mem­bers have a very vast ex­pe­ri­ence of work­ing for the fi­nan­cial sec­tor and they have worked very dili­gently to com­plete this very dif­fi­cult task,’ he added. Later, Busi­ness Risk Con­sul­tant, A. F. Fer­gu­son & Co, Syed Faraz An­wer an­nounced the award cat­e­gories and other de­tails about the awards.
