Am­mad wins Na­tional Jr Age Group Squash U-11 ti­tle

PE­SHAWAR—Pak­istan No. 1 Muham­mad Am­mad re­tained Na­tional Ju­nior Un­der11 Age Group Squash Cham­pi­onship played here PAF Hashim Khan Squash Com­plex on Thurs­day.

Hail­ing from Pak­istan Air Force Academy Pe­shawar look­ing af­ter for­mer World Cham­pion Jan­sher Khan, Qa­mar Zaman, Di­rec­tor PAF Sports Con­trol Com­mit­tee Group Cap­tain As­ghar Awan, Muham­mad Am­mad faced tough re­sis­tance against Ashab Ir­fan of Pun­jab in the marathon four sets, the score was 12-10, 11-9, 6-11, 115.

Am­mad won the first set af­ter a tough fight against Ashab Ir­fan of Pun­jab as the set was tied thrice at 6-6, 8-8 and 10-10 be­fore Am­mad took it at 12-10 by hit­ting two su­perb drops which could not read by Ashab Ir­fan.

It was the sec­ond set in which both Am­mad and Ashab ex­hib­ited clas­sic dis­play of force­ful shorts and at­tack­ing play with some beau­ti­ful nick and drops were also wit­nessed. Am­mad took the set by 119.

When tak­ing 2-0 lead, Am­mad failed to click in the third won by Ashab Ir­fan at 6-11 but this time Muham­mad Am­mad came back strongly by win­ning the de­ci­sive set 11-5 and thus marched into vic­tory at 3-1. The match lasted for 49th minute.

In the sec­ond fi­nal of the Un­der-13 cat­e­gory Pak­istan No. 1 Asad Ul­lah, who re­cently played Qatar Open and Doha Open beat Noor Zaman, also from PAF Academy, the score was 11-9, 6-11, 6-11, 11-4 and 11-5.

Both Asad Ul­lah and Noor Zaman of PAF Academy stretched to five sets 3-2 wherein both ex­hib­ited ex­cel­lent dis­play of su­perb length and smashes which were largely en­joyed by the sit­ting spec­ta­tors who re­sponded well with their cheer­ing hands.

In the Un­der-15 cat­e­gory promis­ing Uzair Shoukat of PAF took no time in over­pow­er­ing his ri­val Rashad Daulat, also from PAF Academy, in straight sets, the score was 11-5, 11-7 and 11-4. Uzair Shoukat did not look be­hind and raced up to vic­tory against Rashad Daulat.

In the Un­der-17 age group fi­nal Pak­istan Na­tional Ju­nior top rank­ing player Ab­bas Zeb, who twice won Dutch Open and Doha Open and re­mained the semi­fi­nal­ist in Qatar Open, also faced tough re­sis­tance against an­other up­com­ing player Zee­shan Gul, also from PAF Academy, in marathon five sets bat­tle fought on rat­tling pace.

Sur­pris­ingly Ab­bas Zeb lost the first two sets by 6-11 and 6-11 but he staged a strong come­back by win­ning three con­sec­u­tive sets 12-10, 11-3 and 12-10 be­fore win­ning the ti­tle.

Both Ab­bas Zeb and Zee­shan Gul gave each other a very good fight and they played some su­perb squash. Zee­shan Gul also im­proved his game as ear­lier he was usu­ally lost to Ab­bas Zeb in straight set but this time, Zee­shan gave a stun­ning re­sponses to Ab­bas Zeb in a match lasted for 52nd minute.

At the end of the fi­nals of all four cat­e­gories, Ad­di­tional Sec­re­tary Law Daud Khan, who was the chief guest on this oc­ca­sion, gave away tro­phies and cash prizes. He also an­nounced Rs. 1000 each for the po­si­tion holder play­ers. Ex­ec­u­tive mem­bers KP Squash As­so­ci­a­tion Wazir Khan also an­nounced Rs. 500 to each of the po­si­tion holder play­ers. A to­tal of 120 play­ers from across Pak­istan took part in the Cham­pi­onship or­ga­nized by KP Squash As­so­ci­a­tion.—APP
