ISLAMABAD—LAHORE, May 12 (APP): Pakistan WAPDA, Navy, Pakistan Ordnance Factory and Pakistan Army marched ahead after winning their respective opening matches of the 49th Allied Bank National Volleyball Championship that commenced at the Liaqat Gymnasium here on Thursday.
Defending Champion WADPA started its campaign on a successful note beating FATA in a straight game in the 25-14, 25-15 and 2515, said the information made available here.
In the second match NAVY outclassed Sindh in another straight game 25-5, 25-10, 25-7. Sindh offered little resistance throughout the match.
In the third match POF faced tough ropposition from Balochistan, particularly they were almost losing the second set but wrong serves of their opponents in the cru- cial moments gave them a straight win 25-11, 27-25, 25-20.
In the fourth match, Army also struggled to beat Railways in the first set 25-22. But in the next two sets the Railways offered some resistance as Army men won the match 2522, 25-16, 25-13.
Before the fourth match both team were introduced to the Chief Guest Capt (retd) Muhammad Ali Gardezi, Secretary Inter Provincial Coordination Ministry. Chairman Pakistan Volleyball Federation Ch. Mohammad Yaqoob, Allied Bank’s Chief Commercial Banking Tahir Yaqoob Bhatti were also present on the occasion.
