Kidnapped newborn recovered handed over to grandmother
LAHORE—Medical Superintendent Jinnah Hospital Dr. Shafqat Ali has said that there was no slackness of hospital administration in the incident of kidnapping of a newborn premature baby as the hospital administration had handed over the baby to his grandmother Rajan Bibi and the CCTV footage of handing over the baby is a documentary proof. Dr. Shafqat further said that the grandmother of the child had handed over the newborn to another woman who was introduced as ‘Phophi’ of the child.
The so-called Phophi of the child disappeared from the Peads Nursery along with the baby and as soon as the unfortunate incident came into the notice of the administration of the hospital, the Administration informed the local police.
According to the details, Shehnaz Bibi wife of Mushtaq Resident of Butt Chowk, Township was admitted in Gyne Unit-II, delivered a male baby in labour room of Jinnah Hospital on 12-05-2016 at evening. The Charge Nurse of the labour room handed over the baby to the grandmother Rajan Bibi. Since the baby was premature, therefore, doctors referred the baby to peads nursery along with call letter, the Ward Aya Tahira Bibi of labour room accompanied the grandmother of the baby Rajan Bibi.
Dr. Shafqat said that this handing over and shifting of the baby into Peads Nursery has been documented and recorded in CCTV to this effect is available. In Peads Nursery ward, Rajan Bibi handed over the newborn baby to the accompanied woman who was introduced as ‘Phophi’ of the baby. Rajan bibi went to get emergency slip for admission, after that the so-called Phophi also left the Peads Nursery along with baby to bring the grandmother back but she did not turn up.
Dr. Shafqat further said that after some time, Rajan bibi came back and starting shouting that her newborn grandson has been kidnapped by the so-called phophi. In his report sent to the Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education, Dr. Shafqat Ali said that as soon as the incident came to his knowledge, without any delay he instructed the officials to immediately inform the police, which they did at once. Now the local police is investigating the incident.
