SC or­ders for PP-232 re-elec­tion

ISLAMABAD—The Supreme Court on Mon­day main­tained the Elec­tion Tri­bunal (ET) ver­dict and or­dered re-elec­tion in Pun­jab As­sem­bly con­stituency PP-232 Ve­hari.

The three-mem­ber bench of the apex court headed by Chief Jus­tice An­war Za­heer Ja­mali and com­pris­ing Jus­tice Sheikh Az­mat Saeed and Jus­tice Faisal Arab heard the case filed by Yousaf Kaselia against his dis­qual­i­fi­ca­tion by an ET.

It is to men­tion that Yousaf Kaselia won the 2013 gen­eral elec­tion as in­de­pen­dent can­di­date and joined the Pak­istan Mus­lim League Nawaz (PMLN) af­ter win­ning elec­tions.

Pir Ghu­lam Mo­hyyudin Chishti who con­tested elec­tion on PML-N ticket chal­lenged Kaselia’s vic­tory be­fore an Elec­tion Tri­bunal.

The ET af­ter hear­ing ar­gu­ments of both par­ties dis­qual­i­fied Kaselia over hid­ing of as­sets and or­dered re-elec­tion in the con­stituency. Dur­ing to­day’s course of pro­ceed­ings, Ad­vo­cate Shahzad Shoukat coun­sel for Yousaf Kaselia and Ad­vo­cate Na­jam ul Has­san ap­peared on be­half of Chishti ap­peared be­fore the bench.
