Saudi, UAE ink deal to set up co­or­di­na­tion coun­cil

JEDDAH—Saudi Ara­bia and the United Arab Emi­rates signed on Tues­day a pro­to­col to es­tab­lish the Saudi-UAE Co­or­di­na­tion Coun­cil.

The sign­ing cer­e­mony was held in the pres­ence of King Sal­man and Sheikh Mo­hammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme com­man­der of the Armed Forces of UAE at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah.

Dr. Nizar Madani, min­is­ter of state for for­eign af­fairs, signed the deal for Saudi Ara­bia while Ali Bin Mo­hammed Al-Shamsi, deputy sec­re­tary gen­eral of the Supreme Coun­cil for Se­cu­rity, signed rep­re­sent­ing the UAE.

The sign­ing cer­e­mony was also at­tended by Crown Prince Muham­mad Bin Naif, deputy premier and min­is­ter of in­te­rior; Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, emir of Makkah and ad­vi­sor to the king; Ibrahim Al-As­saf, min­is­ter of fi­nance; Adel Al-Tu­raifi, min­is­ter of cul­ture and in­for­ma­tion, and sev­eral other high rank­ing of­fi­cials from both sides.

Ear­lier, King Sal­man re­ceived Sheikh Mo­hammed Bin Zayed at his palace.

Dur­ing the meet­ing, they re­viewed the close bi­lat­eral re­la­tions be­tween the two coun­tries and agreed to fur­ther en­hance co­op­er­a­tion in var­i­ous fields.

They also dis­cussed the lat­est de­vel­op­ments on the re­gional and in­ter­na­tional are­nas.—Agencies
