Speak­ers pay glow­ing tributes to Movli Fa­rooq, Ghani Lone

SRINAGAR—In oc­cu­pied Kash­mir, speak­ers at a sem­i­nar in Srinagar, Tues­day, re­it­er­ated that In­dia will not be al­lowed to di­vide peo­ple of Jammu and Kash­mir on com­mu­nal lines in the name of sep­a­rate town­ships of Pan­dits and sol­dier colonies.

The event was or­ga­nized in con­nec­tion with Mar­tyr­dom Week be­ing ob­served to mark the mar­tyr­dom an­niver­saries of prom­i­nent lib­er­a­tion lead­ers, Mir­waiz Molvi Muham­mad Fa­rooq, Khawaja Ab­dul Ghani Lone and mar­tyrs of Hawal. The func­tion was presided over by Mir­waiz Umar Fa­rooq.

Ad­dress­ing on the oc­ca­sion, the Chair­man of Jammu and Kash­mir Lib­er­a­tion Front, Muham­mad Yasin Ma­lik stressed the need for thwart­ing In­dian de­signs on Kash­mir with unity.

Mir­waiz Umar Fa­rooq in his ad­dress thanked the par­tic­i­pants in­clud­ing Muham­mad Yasin Ma­lik for at­tend­ing the sem­i­nar, and said that his Hur­riyet had al­ways been cham­pi­oning unity among ranks and files of Kash­miri peo­ple.mir­waz-2

Oth­ers who par­tic­i­pated in the func­tion in­cluded Bi­lal Ghani Lone, Maulana Mas­roor Ab­bas An­sari, Mukhtar Ah­mad Waza, for­mer Pres­i­dent of High Court Bar As­so­ci­a­tion Nazir Ah­mad Ronga, En­gi­neer Hi­lal Ah­mad War, Muham­mad Mu­sad­diq Aadil, Ghu­lam Nabi Zaki, Mir Ghu­lam Hassan, Ab­dur Rasheed Un­too, Ab­dul Ma­jeed Ban­day, Shahidul Is­lam, Ab­dul Man­nan Bukhari and Maulana M.S. Rehman Shams.

Mir­waiz Molvi Muham­mad Fa­rooq was shot dead by uniden­ti­fied gun­men af­ter barg­ing into his house in Srinagar on 21st May in 1990. Seventy mourn­ers were killed when In­dian troops fired at his fu­neral pro­ces­sion in Hawal area of the city.

Twelve years later, on the same day in 2002, Khawaja Ab­dul Ghani Lone was mar­tyred by un­known at­tack­ers, when he was re­turn­ing af­ter ad­dress­ing a gath­er­ing held at Mazar-e-Shuhada in Srinagar.—KMS
