Speakers pay glowing tributes to Movli Farooq, Ghani Lone
SRINAGAR—In occupied Kashmir, speakers at a seminar in Srinagar, Tuesday, reiterated that India will not be allowed to divide people of Jammu and Kashmir on communal lines in the name of separate townships of Pandits and soldier colonies.
The event was organized in connection with Martyrdom Week being observed to mark the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent liberation leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and martyrs of Hawal. The function was presided over by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
Addressing on the occasion, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik stressed the need for thwarting Indian designs on Kashmir with unity.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in his address thanked the participants including Muhammad Yasin Malik for attending the seminar, and said that his Hurriyet had always been championing unity among ranks and files of Kashmiri people.mirwaz-2
Others who participated in the function included Bilal Ghani Lone, Maulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, former President of High Court Bar Association Nazir Ahmad Ronga, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Muhammad Musaddiq Aadil, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Mir Ghulam Hassan, Abdur Rasheed Untoo, Abdul Majeed Banday, Shahidul Islam, Abdul Mannan Bukhari and Maulana M.S. Rehman Shams.
Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was shot dead by unidentified gunmen after barging into his house in Srinagar on 21st May in 1990. Seventy mourners were killed when Indian troops fired at his funeral procession in Hawal area of the city.
Twelve years later, on the same day in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone was martyred by unknown attackers, when he was returning after addressing a gathering held at Mazar-e-Shuhada in Srinagar.—KMS
