Street crime

Pakistan Observer - - OPINION - WAFAA SIRAJ

Street Crime has become a common issue these days in the city of Karachi and almost everywhere the youth are targeted in these crimes and the most common crime is the snatching of mobile phones. Usually this occurs in busy business areas. These robbers come well armed and well prepared both physically and psychologically to commit the crimes. These people overpower the victim by fear of weapons.

These crimes are contributing to the destruction of our society, our cities and our streets. Nowadays, almost every citizen is victim of street crime. No life or property is safe nowadays. Police takes no action against these thieves and it has become a spreading menace for the citizens. The youth, these days, are very much in fear that whether to carry a mobile phone or cash while travelling at any time of the day. It is not just night time that is dangerous but also the day time.

Anytime, anyplace and by any means these culprits get hold of helpless and innocent people walking in the streets and rob them of all valuables, cash and mobile phones. The major causes are unemployment, illiteracy, poverty but there are some other factors like lawlessness, fundamentalism, backwardness and double standard prevailing in the society. I request to higher authorities to take prompt actions against these crimes I request the authorities responsible for security in the city to further keep a watch for these culprits that are a danger to the youth and also the other residents of the city of Karachi. — Karachi
