Gambian delegation visits HEC
ISLAMABAD—A Gambian delegation headed by Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Dr Aboubacar Abdullah Senghoret Wednesday visited Higher Education Commission (HEC). The delegation, which is in Pakistan to attend the 19th meeting of COMSATS Coordinating Council, also included Mucktarr M. Y. Darboe and Bakebba Jatta.
HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed welcomed the delegates and presented an overview of the Commission’s initiatives and achievements during the last 13 years. He explained how the government’s commitment to develop higher education and a considerable increase in funding had brought remarkable changes in the sector.
The HEC Chairman said the primary focus of the Commission was on the development of human resource in all disciplines and providing ample opportunities to faculty, research scholars and students to harness their potential. The Gambian minister appreciated achievements of HEC in the fields of research, HRD, and development of IT facilities for higher education across the country, and termed it a role model for the whole Muslim world.
He expressed his desire to collaborate with HEC for developing their country’s higher education and Institutions of Higher Learning through provision of expertise and experience. Dr Mukhtar offered full cooperation and support to assist the brotherly Muslim country for its mission to establish and strengthen the higher education sector.
The Ghambian minister appreciated the hospitality of Pakistani people, emphasizing that cooperation in the field of education will play a key role in bringing the governments and people of the two countries closer to each other.
