Gam­bian del­e­ga­tion vis­its HEC

ISLAMABAD—A Gam­bian del­e­ga­tion headed by Min­is­ter for Higher Ed­u­ca­tion, Re­search, Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy Dr Aboubacar Ab­dullah Senghoret Wed­nes­day vis­ited Higher Ed­u­ca­tion Com­mis­sion (HEC). The del­e­ga­tion, which is in Pak­istan to at­tend the 19th meet­ing of COMSATS Co­or­di­nat­ing Coun­cil, also in­cluded Muck­tarr M. Y. Dar­boe and Bakebba Jatta.

HEC Chair­man Dr Mukhtar Ahmed wel­comed the del­e­gates and pre­sented an over­view of the Com­mis­sion’s ini­tia­tives and achieve­ments dur­ing the last 13 years. He ex­plained how the gov­ern­ment’s com­mit­ment to de­velop higher ed­u­ca­tion and a con­sid­er­able in­crease in fund­ing had brought re­mark­able changes in the sec­tor.

The HEC Chair­man said the pri­mary fo­cus of the Com­mis­sion was on the de­vel­op­ment of hu­man re­source in all dis­ci­plines and pro­vid­ing am­ple op­por­tu­ni­ties to fac­ulty, re­search schol­ars and stu­dents to har­ness their po­ten­tial. The Gam­bian min­is­ter ap­pre­ci­ated achieve­ments of HEC in the fields of re­search, HRD, and de­vel­op­ment of IT fa­cil­i­ties for higher ed­u­ca­tion across the coun­try, and termed it a role model for the whole Mus­lim world.

He ex­pressed his de­sire to col­lab­o­rate with HEC for de­vel­op­ing their coun­try’s higher ed­u­ca­tion and In­sti­tu­tions of Higher Learn­ing through pro­vi­sion of ex­per­tise and ex­pe­ri­ence. Dr Mukhtar of­fered full co­op­er­a­tion and sup­port to as­sist the brotherly Mus­lim coun­try for its mis­sion to es­tab­lish and strengthen the higher ed­u­ca­tion sec­tor.

The Gham­bian min­is­ter ap­pre­ci­ated the hos­pi­tal­ity of Pak­istani peo­ple, em­pha­siz­ing that co­op­er­a­tion in the field of ed­u­ca­tion will play a key role in bring­ing the gov­ern­ments and peo­ple of the two coun­tries closer to each other.
