PPL funds con­struc­tion of CED

KARACHI—Pak­istan Pe­tro­leum Lim­ited (PPL) do­nated Rs 3.24 mil­lion to­wards con­struc­tion of the Cen­tre of Ex­cel­lence for Deaf (CED) be­ing es­tab­lished by Pak­istan As­so­ci­a­tion of the Deaf (PAD) in Ko­rangi In­dus­trial Area, Karachi. MD & CEO PPL Syed Wamiq Bokhari pre­sented the cheque to Co-pres­i­dent, PAD Ir­fan Mum­taz in the pres­ence of of­fi­cials from both or­ga­ni­za­tions at PPL’s head of­fice.

Speak­ing on the oc­ca­sion, Bokhari re­it­er­ated PPL’s com­mit­ment to im­prove the qual­ity of life for the un­der­served pop­u­la­tion through sup­port­ing sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment ini­tia­tives. “As a na­tional flag­ship com­pany, it is our re­spon­si­bil­ity to help build the na­tion through not only our busi­ness op­er­a­tions but also so­cial con­tri­bu­tions.” added Bokhari.

With an ear­marked an­nual bud­get of 1.5 per­cent pre-tax profit for Cor­po­rate So­cial Re­spon­si­bil­ity ini­tia­tives and ac­tual spend­ing ex­ceed­ing 5 per­cent dur­ing the cur­rent fi­nan­cial year, PPL has been de­clared the largest cor­po­rate giver in terms of vol­ume of do­na­tions for 11 con­sec­u­tive years by Pak­istan Cen­tre for Phi­lan­thropy.

PAD, a mem­ber of the World Fed­er­a­tion of the Deaf, is a lead­ing non-profit or­ga­ni­za­tion founded in 1987 to pro­vide ed­u­ca­tion and vo­ca­tional train­ing to hear­ing chal­lenged in­di­vid­u­als. Cur­rently, PAD caters to over 2000 mem­bers through its na­tion­wide net­works. Be­ing a pi­o­neer in de­vel­op­ing pri­mary ed­u­ca­tion cur­ricu­lum in sign lan­guage, PAD has played a piv­otal role in en­rich­ing na­tional sign lan­guage through re­search and de­vel­op­ment and pub­lish­ing 19 books on var­i­ous sub­ject ar­eas. CED aims to pro­vide free-of-cost qual­ity ed­u­ca­tion to the hear­ing im­paired through deaf teach­ing staff, as a first, with re­quired in­fra­struc­ture and lat­est tech­nol­ogy to en­sure an en­abling learn­ing en­vi­ron­ment.
