Punjab MPAs defeat KP by 11 runs in thrilling T20 match
LAHORE—Punjab MPA’s XI scored a thrilling 11 runs victory over KPK Assembly XI in a T20 match here on Tuesday night at Gadaffi Stadium.
The home side elected to bat on a placid wicket posted 143 for the loss for 9 wickets in allotted 20 overs and bowled out their opponents at 132.
The home team innings revolved around half century maker and the top scorer Ali Salman (51) and Syed Zaeem Qadri (27). They entertained the audience with their stroke play and hammered boundaries to different parts of the ground.
Qazi Farid and Asif Mehmood with 16 runs each supported the winning team.
Shah Faisal was the pick of the KPK side and captured 3 wickets for 24 runs as Shah Farman (2/28) and Ishtiaq Omar (2/ 31) were their other main wicket takers.
KPK, in reply, utilized their full energy to chase the total set by Punjab but fell 11 runs short of the target mainly due to deadly bowling of Malik Taimoor Masood, who grabbed 5 wickets for just 16 runs in the role of chief wicket taker. KPK Minister Shah Farman exhibited wonderful form, fitness and stamina and scored 48 runs but failed to steer his side to success as rest of the KPK batsmen fell cheapy. Shah Faisal and Gohar Nawaz made 14 and 10 runs respectively. Mehmood Cheema from Punjab also chipped in with two wickets. Earlier, both the teams were accorded warm welcome upon their arrival at the Gaddafi Stadium and they were introduced with the Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar. Among hundreds of sports lovers, several popular figures such as former national Kabaddi captain Shafiq Chishti, world class spin bowlers Yasir Shah and Zulfiqar Babar were also present in the ground to enjoy the provincial parliamentarians’ cricket match which was supervised by International umpires Ahsan Raza and Shozab Raza.—APP
