SC al­lows ac­cused in Mukhtaran Mai case to hire coun­sels

ISLAMABAD—The Supreme Court Thurs­day al­lowed the ac­cused in Mukhtaran Mai case to hire coun­sels in case and ad­journed hear­ing of the case for an in­def­i­nite pe­riod. The three-mem­ber bench of the court headed by Justice Saqib Nisar and com­pris­ing Justice Maq­bool Baqar and Justice Khilji Arif Hus­sain took up Mai’s re­view pe­ti­tion against the top court’s April 21, 2011 ver­dict re­gard­ing the ac­quit­tal of five of the six ac­cused. Dur­ing the course of pro­ceed­ings, the court was in­formed that all ac­cused in Mukhtaran Mai case were present in the court and sought time to hire a coun­sel.—APP
