Setting up R&D Endowment Fund on cards
DR. WAQAR CH LAHORE—Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) is planning to establish the Research and Development (R&D) fund to excel in its priority areas to meet the future challenges of rapid advancement in different sphere of life. Official sources told Pakistan Observer that PCSIR Chairman Dr. Shahzad Alam on the special directive of Federal Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanvir Hussain and Federal Secretary Science and Technology Fazal Abbas tailored a master plan to keep pace with the globalisation process and innovative technologies need to be developed.
The incumbent government going beyond the slogans by taking several practical measures to heighten the socio economic development of the country. About the endowment fund, the sources further elaborated that priority areas included biotechnolgy, nano-technology, advanced and composite materials, fuel, energy efficiency, labelling leather, textile, calibration, glass, ceramics, environment, pharmaceutical, herbal products, value addition in food products and Halal testing etc. The portfolio of PCSIR’s activities in this domain has remained the identification and exploitation of the national resources fostering linkages with industries, dissemination of knowledge to the industrial and research community.
PCSIR has also improved its in-house infrastructure facilities in the shape of installation of latest state of the art equipment keeping in view the demand of industrial sector for quality certification of their products and compete in global market.
