IG wants spe­cial sehri, if­tari ar­range­ments for pris­on­ers

LA­HORE—In­spec­tor General of Pris­ons Pun­jab Mian Fa­rooq Nazeer has di­rected the all Deputy In­spec­tors General of Pris­ons and Su­per­in­ten­dents of Jail across Pun­jab prov­ince to make im­mac­u­late ar­range­ments for sheri and if­tari of pris­on­ers dur­ing the holy month of Ra­mazan Ul Mubarak.

In an ex­clu­sive in­ter­view with Pak­istan Ob­server, here Satur­day, Pris­ons Chief said nearly 48898 con­victs and un­der trial pris­on­ers housed in 37 pris­ons of the prov­ince will ob­serve fast. He said that women pris­on­ers con­fined along with suck­ling chil­dren will be served ex­tra milk and food for their kids be­sides spe­cial meal.

He said that DIGs of La­hore, Faisal­abad, Rawalpindi and Sahi­wal ranges have also been di­rected to fully en­sure the im­ple­men­ta­tion of in­struc­tions for pro­vid­ing best qual- ity food to all in­mates in their re­spec­tive pris­ons while DIG Hq Mian Sa­lik Jalal and DIG (In­spec­tion) Abdul Rauf will pay sur­prise vis­its daily to check the qual­ity of food and se­cu­rity ar­range­ments in and around the all jails.

DIG La­hore Range, Mubashar Ah­mad Khan when con­tacted told this scribe that “Spe­cial lec­tures on Is­lamic val­ues will be de­liv­ered to pris­on­ers by the re­li­gious per­son­al­i­ties at jail mosques on daily ba­sis “, he said, adding that spe­cial ar­range­ments will also be made for Sehri, If­tari and for of­fer­ing prayers, be­sides Tar­aveeh.

All the doc­tors posted in the jails have also been di­rected to check the qual­ity of food be­fore it is cooked and served. Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent of Cen­tral Jail, Kot­lalkh­pat Asad Javed War­raich when con­tacted said that new menu in­cludes chicken six days a week in ad­di­tion to best qual­ity colonel super bas­mati rice.
