IG wants special sehri, iftari arrangements for prisoners
LAHORE—Inspector General of Prisons Punjab Mian Farooq Nazeer has directed the all Deputy Inspectors General of Prisons and Superintendents of Jail across Punjab province to make immaculate arrangements for sheri and iftari of prisoners during the holy month of Ramazan Ul Mubarak.
In an exclusive interview with Pakistan Observer, here Saturday, Prisons Chief said nearly 48898 convicts and under trial prisoners housed in 37 prisons of the province will observe fast. He said that women prisoners confined along with suckling children will be served extra milk and food for their kids besides special meal.
He said that DIGs of Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Sahiwal ranges have also been directed to fully ensure the implementation of instructions for providing best qual- ity food to all inmates in their respective prisons while DIG Hq Mian Salik Jalal and DIG (Inspection) Abdul Rauf will pay surprise visits daily to check the quality of food and security arrangements in and around the all jails.
DIG Lahore Range, Mubashar Ahmad Khan when contacted told this scribe that “Special lectures on Islamic values will be delivered to prisoners by the religious personalities at jail mosques on daily basis “, he said, adding that special arrangements will also be made for Sehri, Iftari and for offering prayers, besides Taraveeh.
All the doctors posted in the jails have also been directed to check the quality of food before it is cooked and served. Senior Superintendent of Central Jail, Kotlalkhpat Asad Javed Warraich when contacted said that new menu includes chicken six days a week in addition to best quality colonel super basmati rice.
