Aqeel, Sarah win HASCOL Na­tional Rank­ing Ten­nis ti­tles

MIAN AR­SHAD IS­LAM­ABAD—Pak­istan No. 1 and Davis Cup player, Aqeel Khan lift up to the ex­pec­ta­tions of ten­nis fra­ter­nity and spec­ta­tors all and con­vinc­ingly won the Men’s Sin­gles ti­tle of 1st HASCOL Na­tional Rank­ing Ten­nis Cham­pi­onships, 2016.

He won the first set rather putting much ef­forts but in the sec­ond set his op­po­nent Muham­mad Abid Mush­taq of WAPDA re­sisted with com­posed ef­forts and took the lead to 4-0 stage.

From there Pak­istan No.1 came to his billing and won the set with­out con­ced­ing a sin­gle game with 6-4 score. In the fi­nal set he elim­i­nated M. Abid with the same score. Fi­nal score was 6-1,6-4,6-4.

Ladies sin­gles fi­nal which was played ear­lier in the morn­ing was rather more in­ter­est­ing and went to full dis­tance. Sarah Mah­boob Khan for­mer Pak­istan No.1 and Sara Man­soor cur­rent Pak­istan No.1 en­gaged each other from the base­line and mostly re­lied on ground stock. Sarah Mah­boob was the win­ner in a two hour and thirty min­utes duel with the score 3-6,7-6(6),6-1.

Mum­taz Has­san Khan , Chair­man & CEO Hascol Pe­tro­leum was the chief guest who gave away the cash prizes of Rs. 500000 to win­ners and run­ners up.

Salim Sai­ful­lah Khan , Pres­i­dent PTF, Di­lawar Ab­bas , pa­tron PTF, His Ex­cel­lency Sharif Sha­heen Am­bas­sador Egypt , His Ex­cel­lency Ahmed Salim , the High Com­mis­sioner Repub­lic of Mal­dives were also present at Clos­ing cer­e­mony.
