Wa­ter is­sue in SITE area dis­cussed

KARACHI—An im­por­tant meet­ing to re­view the wa­ter cri­sis in the SITE area was held at SITE As­so­ci­a­tion’s of­fice, which was chaired by Pres­i­dent SITE As­so­ci­a­tion of In­dus­try Ju­naid Es­mail Makda. Be­sides Se­nior Vice Pres­i­dent, M. Arif Lakhany, Ex-Pres­i­dents, M. Jawed Bil­wani, Salim Parekh and Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee Mem­ber, Sikan­dar Im­ran also at­tended.

Ex­ec­u­tive En­gi­neer KWSB Za­far Palejo rep­re­sented. SITE Lim­ited was rep­re­sented by Tayyab, As­sis­tant Engi- neer, (w/s), said a state­ment. Ju­naid Es­mail Makda high­lighted the acute short­age of wa­ter in the SITE and the re­sul­tant colos­sal loss to the in­dus­tries and the GDP.

He de­manded that due share of wa­ter, as per the agree­ment reached in 2014 must be pro­vided by KW&SB to main­tain the life­line of in­dus­try in SITE area. M. Jawed Bil­wani ex­plained to the par­tic­i­pants, the plan of meet­ing the short­age, to some ex­tent, through Sub-Soil Wa­ter.

In this re­gard, suf­fi­cient data has been col­lected and un­der process to for­mu­late a com­pres­sive ar­range­ment for its smooth run­ning. SITE Lim­ited’s rep­re­sen­ta­tive pro­vided the data of re­ceipt of wa­ter from KWSB which re­flected that very less amount of wa­ter was be­ing pro­vided as com­pared to the due share of the SITE area.

Za­far Pal­ijo, Chief En­gi­neer of KW&SB as­sured the par­tic­i­pants of sub­stan­tial in­crease in the sup­ply of wa­ter to SITE area to meet the bare min­i­mum re­quire­ments for main­tain­ing the life­line of in­dus­tries.—APP
