Water issue in SITE area discussed
KARACHI—An important meeting to review the water crisis in the SITE area was held at SITE Association’s office, which was chaired by President SITE Association of Industry Junaid Esmail Makda. Besides Senior Vice President, M. Arif Lakhany, Ex-Presidents, M. Jawed Bilwani, Salim Parekh and Executive Committee Member, Sikandar Imran also attended.
Executive Engineer KWSB Zafar Palejo represented. SITE Limited was represented by Tayyab, Assistant Engi- neer, (w/s), said a statement. Junaid Esmail Makda highlighted the acute shortage of water in the SITE and the resultant colossal loss to the industries and the GDP.
He demanded that due share of water, as per the agreement reached in 2014 must be provided by KW&SB to maintain the lifeline of industry in SITE area. M. Jawed Bilwani explained to the participants, the plan of meeting the shortage, to some extent, through Sub-Soil Water.
In this regard, sufficient data has been collected and under process to formulate a compressive arrangement for its smooth running. SITE Limited’s representative provided the data of receipt of water from KWSB which reflected that very less amount of water was being provided as compared to the due share of the SITE area.
Zafar Palijo, Chief Engineer of KW&SB assured the participants of substantial increase in the supply of water to SITE area to meet the bare minimum requirements for maintaining the lifeline of industries.—APP
