Ex­tra-ju­di­cial cus­tody of Masar­rat

SRINAGAR—A lo­cal court has termed the de­ten­tion of Hur­riyet leader, Masar­rat Aalam Butt by In­dian po­lice as ex­tra-ju­di­cial cus­tody, say­ing that no court could com­pro­mise on any il­le­gal act even by the ad­min­is­tra­tion.

The court granted bail to Masar­rat Aalam Butt in a case reg­is­tered against him for rais­ing Pak­istani flag in a rally or­gan­ised to wel­come the All Par­ties Hur­riyet Con­fer­ence (APHC) Chair­man, Syed Ali Gi­lani in Srinagar af­ter a pro­longed stay in Delhi last year.

The Chief Ju­di­cial Mag­is­trate of Badgam, Masar­rat Roohi lam­basted po­lice for slow pace in the in­ves­ti­ga­tion of 27 cases reg­is­tered against Masar­rat.—KMS Life was hit on Thurs­day across Oc­cu­pied Kash­mir due to a shut­down to protest the ‘plans’ of govt to build Sainik and Pan­dit colonies.
