Girl-burning tragedy, court grants 7-day remand to accused
Speaker KP PA attends trial, wants exemplary punishment to culprits
ABDUL KHALIQ QURESHI ABBOTTABAD—Special Judge of Anti-Terrorism Court Hazara Masood Ahmed has granted additional 7 days remand to nine accused in girl burning on Friday, earlier court has given them seven days remand which was extended to additional 14 days and all the accused had till date remained in police custody for 21 days.
All the fourteen members of ‘Jirga’ were produced before the court in tight security where heavy contingent of police was deployed in the entire area. Sher Afzal Khan Advocate moved an application from prosecution side and contended for additional 15 days remand which was objected by the Atif Jadoon, counsel of accused saying that police has already completed their investigation and now they should frame charges instead of further remand.
Judge of Anti-Terrorism Court showed displeasure over the slow phase of progress in the case by the police and remarked that till time police could not produce solid evidence against the 15 accused who all were arrested in hurry without doing homework and proper investigation however keeping sensitivity of the case, further 7 days re- mand granted.
Judge Masood Ahmed took notice of the request of the counsel and allowed the counsel of the accused to meet in the courtroom to discuss in detail with the accused about the case. Court has granted additional seven days remand of Saeed, Naseer, Safdar, Muneer, Siraj S/O Ali and Siraj, Pervez S/O Gul Zaman, Shabbir and Pervez.
All other five were sent to judicial lockup by the court. Speaker of the KP Assembly Asad Qaiser who had announced to fight the case as plaintiff and will support to the family of burnt girl was present with his team of lawyers from Peshawar while president of Insaf Lawyers Forum Abbottabad Touqeer Rehman Advocate and other lawyers of PTI were also present at the occasion.
Speaking outside the court room with the media persons, representatives of civil society and activates of PTI, Asad Qaiser said that KP government has issued special directives to police for taking it as challenge case as they wants culprits to be given exemplary punishment for which we will utilise our all resources and had also asked the police to investigate the case on merit so justice to be done with everyone.
