Girl-burn­ing tragedy, court grants 7-day re­mand to ac­cused

Speaker KP PA at­tends trial, wants ex­em­plary pun­ish­ment to cul­prits

AB­DUL KHALIQ QURESHI AB­BOT­TABAD—Spe­cial Judge of Anti-Ter­ror­ism Court Hazara Ma­sood Ahmed has granted ad­di­tional 7 days re­mand to nine ac­cused in girl burn­ing on Friday, ear­lier court has given them seven days re­mand which was ex­tended to ad­di­tional 14 days and all the ac­cused had till date re­mained in po­lice cus­tody for 21 days.

All the four­teen mem­bers of ‘Jirga’ were pro­duced be­fore the court in tight se­cu­rity where heavy con­tin­gent of po­lice was de­ployed in the en­tire area. Sher Afzal Khan Ad­vo­cate moved an ap­pli­ca­tion from pros­e­cu­tion side and con­tended for ad­di­tional 15 days re­mand which was ob­jected by the Atif Jadoon, coun­sel of ac­cused say­ing that po­lice has al­ready com­pleted their in­ves­ti­ga­tion and now they should frame charges in­stead of fur­ther re­mand.

Judge of Anti-Ter­ror­ism Court showed dis­plea­sure over the slow phase of progress in the case by the po­lice and re­marked that till time po­lice could not pro­duce solid ev­i­dence against the 15 ac­cused who all were ar­rested in hurry with­out do­ing home­work and proper in­ves­ti­ga­tion how­ever keep­ing sen­si­tiv­ity of the case, fur­ther 7 days re- mand granted.

Judge Ma­sood Ahmed took no­tice of the re­quest of the coun­sel and al­lowed the coun­sel of the ac­cused to meet in the court­room to dis­cuss in de­tail with the ac­cused about the case. Court has granted ad­di­tional seven days re­mand of Saeed, Naseer, Saf­dar, Muneer, Si­raj S/O Ali and Si­raj, Pervez S/O Gul Za­man, Shab­bir and Pervez.

All other five were sent to ju­di­cial lockup by the court. Speaker of the KP As­sem­bly Asad Qaiser who had an­nounced to fight the case as plain­tiff and will sup­port to the family of burnt girl was present with his team of lawyers from Peshawar while pres­i­dent of In­saf Lawyers Fo­rum Ab­bot­tabad Touqeer Rehman Ad­vo­cate and other lawyers of PTI were also present at the oc­ca­sion.

Speak­ing out­side the court room with the me­dia per­sons, rep­re­sen­ta­tives of civil so­ci­ety and ac­ti­vates of PTI, Asad Qaiser said that KP gov­ern­ment has is­sued spe­cial di­rec­tives to po­lice for tak­ing it as challenge case as they wants cul­prits to be given ex­em­plary pun­ish­ment for which we will utilise our all re­sources and had also asked the po­lice to in­ves­ti­gate the case on merit so jus­tice to be done with ev­ery­one.
