Mirwaiz barred from offering Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid

Pakistan Observer - - KASHMIR -

SRINAGAR—Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under house arrest since Wednesday, was not allowed to offer Friday prayers at historic Jamia Masjid.

Mirwaiz delivers the Friday sermons at the historic Grand mosque of Kashmir. “Mirwaiz Sahab was stopped from discharging his religious duties at historic Jamia Masjid,” a party spokesman said.

A joint programme for shutdown and subsequent peaceful protests after Friday prayers across Jammu Kashmir was given by both Hurriyat factions led by Mirwaiz and Syed Ali Geelani and JKLF led by Muhammad Yasin Malik.

Geelani remains in continuous detention while Malik was arrested from his Srinagar office on Wednesday.—GK SRINAGAR—Police
