23rd All Pak­istan Par­a­lympic Games be­gin at Abbottabad

PE­SHAWAR—The 23rd edi­tion of the All Pak­istan Par­a­lympic Games un­der the aegis of Direc­torate of Khy­ber Pak­thunkhwa got un­der way amidst great fun and en­thu­si­asm with per­sons with dis­abil­ity from all across Pak­istan.

Mem­ber Pro­vin­cial As­sem­bly and Fo­cal Per­son of the Chief Min­is­ter Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa Shoukat Yousafzai, Chair­per­son Spe­cial Olympic Pak­istan Miss Ronak Lakani, Di­rec­tor Open­er­a­tion Khy­ber Pakhtukhwa Tariq Mehmood, Or­ga­niz­ing Sec­re­taries Mir Bashar Khan, Syed Saqlain Shah, Di­rec­tor Sports Board of In­ter­me­di­ate and Sec­re­tary Ed­u­ca­tion (BISE) Abbottabad Sar­dar Sha­keel Khan, Pro­vin­cial Co­or­di­na­tor Per­son with Dis­abil­ity Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa Miss Ko­mal Khan, play­ers, of­fi­cials and large num­ber of spec­ta­tors were also present dur­ing the col­or­ful open­ing cer­e­mony held at Hockey Sports Com­plex.

The cer­e­mony was started with the recita­tion from the Holy Qu­ran by Hafiz Hamza Anb­war, fol­lowed by Hafiz Da­nia and a melo­di­ous na­tional an­them by the kids of Kingston School for Spe­cial Ed­u­ca­tion Abbottabad.

The kids of the same school pre­sented na­tional an­them and the team March Past. The March Past con­tin­gents led by Farzana Bibi with hold­ing Na­tional flag, who rep­re­sented Pak­istan in the Par­a­lympic Olympic Games by win­ning gold medal. Farzana Bibi is hail­ing from Abbottabad and when she crossed through the fence the sit­ting spec­ta­tors given a stand­ing ova­tion with cheer­ing and thun­der­ing ap­plauses.

Two ath­letes Wa­jid Khan and Farzana Bibi also got oath on be­half of the play­ers and soon af­ter bal­loons, pigeion and ban­ners in­scribes with dif­fer­ent sports slo­gans were also re­leased with the help of bal­loons.

The matcher con­tin­gents in­cluded Kingston school for in­clu­sive ed­u­ca­tion, Abbottabad, mansehra, Rize School of Spe­cial Ed­u­ca­tion, Sam Spe­cial, Syed Spe­cial School, Syed Ah­mad Sha­heed Spe­cial Ed­u­ca­tion, Light House Spe­cial, from Pe­shawar, Mul­tan, La­hore, Is­lam­abad, Faisal­abad are tak­ing part in Bas­ket­ball, Bad­minton, Ta­ble Ten­nis, Cricket (Stand­ing), Blind Cricket, ath­let­ics with 100m Lower Por­tion, Up­per Por­tion, Crouches, Braces wheel chair, stand­ing, powerlifting, stand­ing ta­ble ten­nis, bad­minton, pos­ing body­build­ing, gym­nas­tic and Duck Race.

On the open­ing day in the lower por­tion race of 100m, won by Farhan Ali of Bannu won, fol­lowed by Huzran of Bannu and Zain of Pe­shawar, in the Un­der-16 up­per por­tion So­hail got first, fol­lowed by Im­tiaz and Sa­jid of Razi Sports, in the 100m above cat­e­gory Farhan got first po­si­tion, fol­lowed Muham­mad Nasir and Rana Asif. In the 50m crouches Sabir took first po­si­tion, fol­lowed by Haq­dar Ali and Rana Asif, in the 50m Braces races Shah Dawood won first, fol­lowed by Nisar and Ah­san.

In his wel­come ad­dress Tariq Mehmood high­lighted the aim and ob­jec­tive of hold­ing the event wherein play­ers from dif­fer­ent part of the coun­try tak­ing part. He said like games for nor­mal per­sons, the Direc­torate or­ga­nized these games for the per­son with dis­abil­ity.

In his speech, Shoukat Yousafzai as­sured that the present gov­ern­ment is very keen to have sports ac­tiv­i­ties for all youth in­clud­ing play­ers with dis­abil­ity. He said gov­ern­ment has taken spe­cial ini­tia­tive for pro­vid­ing due fa­cil­i­ties to the play­ers all across the prov­ince.

He also lauded the ef­forts be­ing taken by the Direc­torate of Sports for in­volv­ing spe­cial peo­ple. He said the gov­ern­ment will also en­sure for the im­ple­men­ta­tion of quota for the dis­able in the gov­ern­ment jobs.—APP
