356 mini projects un­der­way in KP to pro­duce cheap elec­tric­ity

PE­SHAWAR—Pro­vin­cial gov­ern­ment of Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa is en­gaged se­ri­ously in com­ple­tion of en­ergy projects on fast track ba­sis in or­der to pull the coun­try out of cur­rently en­ergy cri­sis visa-vis strengthen the econ­omy of the prov­ince by the pro­duc­tion of cheap elec­tric­ity through hy­dropower re­sources. This was stated by Sec­re­tary En­ergy & Power Engr. Naeem Khan and Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer PEDO Ak­bar Ayub Khan dur­ing a visit of the run­ning projects sites at Ja­bori HPP, Mansehra, Karora HPP, Shangla, Rano­lia HPP Ko­his­tan and Daral Kh­war HPP, Swat in or­der to mon­i­tor the work progress said a press re­lease is­sued here on Sun­day.

Both high-ups of the en­ergy de­part­ment ex­am­ined the progress and di­rected to the con­cerned strictly to boost the pace of work in or­der to make avail­able the projects within spec­i­fied time pe­riod. They re­it­er­ated that in­ef­fi­ciency would be un­bear­able in this con­text.

There will be no com­pro­mise over the qual­ity and early com­ple­tions of projects while the con­trac­tors, con­sul­tant and project di­rec­tor would be treated harshly in case of de­lay or show­ing any slug­gish­ness at project work­ing.

Dur­ing the visit CEO PEDO, Ak­bar Ayub Khan briefed that the con­struc­tion work is in progress at 6 hy­dropower projects of about 214 MW which is the high­est ever pace of work in the history of PEDO. By the end of cur­rent year three projects of 56 MW will start gen­er­a­tion. He stated that in or­der to de­velop the lo­cal and for­eign in­vest­ment in prov­ince six hy­dropower projects have been ad­ver­tised to of­fer in pri­vate sec­tor for im­ple­men­ta­tion caus­ing two bil­lion dol­lars in­vest­ment in prov­ince viz. Arkari Gol (Chi­tral) 99 MW, Naran dam (mansehra) 188 MW, Shigo kach (Lower Dir) 102 MW.—APP
