Gee­lani calls for shut­down in south Kash­mir to­day

Syed Ali Gee­lani in a state­ment is­sued in Srinagar de­manded a probe into the grue­some in­ci­dent by an in­ter­na­tional in­ves­ti­ga­tion agency. APHC Gen­eral Sec­re­tary Shab­bir Ah­mad Shah in his state­ment ap­pealed to the peo­ple to ob­serve Mon­day as women pro­tec­tion day as well. The two vic­tim women, Aasiya and Neelo­far, were abducted, mo­lested and sub­se­quently killed by men in uni­form in Shopian on Mon­day.

The fam­ily mem­bers of the women staged a protest at Press Colony in Srinagar over the au­thor­i­ties’ in­ac­tion against the cul­prits. An­other protest sit-in was held by the As­so­ci­a­tion of Par­ents of Dis­ap­peared Per­sons at Pratarp Park in Srinagar against the In­dian Army-backed mili­tia’s in­volve­ment in en­forced dis­ap­pear­ances of the civil­ians. Mean­while, Syed Ali Gee­lani while de­fy­ing re­stric­tions walked out of his res­i­dence to par­tic­i­pate in the book launch cer­e­mony or­ga­nized by APHC at main Hy­der­pora Chowk in Srinagar, Sun­day. Syed Ali Gee­lani is un­der con­tin­ued house de­ten­tion since he re­turned from New Delhi in April. The func­tion was or­ga­nized in honor of renowned writer Has­san Zaina­giree who au­thored the book —Kash­mir: Aatish-i-Zaer Pa.

Speak­ing on the oc­ca­sion, Syed Ali Gee­lani lashed out at pup­pet Chief Min­is­ter Me­hbooba Mufti for her ‘Pi­geon and Cat’ state­ment and said that the role of In­dian armed forces and po­lice was akin to that of cats, which Me­hbooba Mufti had talked about, be­cause it was they who se­lec­tively killed and tor­tured Mus­lims in Kash­mir.—KMS
