Army, Rangers to be de­ployed for by-polls in Sindh: ECP

ISLAMABAD—The Elec­tion Com­mis­sion of Pak­istan (ECP) on Tues­day de­cided to de­ploy Army and Rangers both in­side and out­side of the polling sta­tions in bye-elec­tion of dif­fer­ent con­stituen­cies of the Sindh Assem­bly.

Let­ters have been sent to the sec­re­taries In­te­rior and De­fence, ask­ing them to is­sue nec­es­sary di­rec­tions for de­ploy­ment of suf­fi­cient strength of Sindh Rangers / Pak­istan Army for bye-elec­tion on June 2 in PS-106, PS-117 and PS-22, said an ECP of­fi­cial talk­ing to APP.

Army would act as Quick Re­sponse Force (QRS) in case of any emer­gency, he added.

He said the de­ci­sion was taken in view of the volatile law and or­der sit­u­a­tion in the coun­try as well as de­mands of Provin­cial Elec­tion Com­mis­sioner Sindh, Dis­trict Re­turn­ing Of­fi­cers and Re­turn­ing Of­fi­cers con­cerned, and po­lit­i­cal par­ties.
