CII getting irrelevant

Pakistan Observer - - OPINION - TOOBA KHAN

The CII without doubt has let down many. Its proposal of allowing men to lightly beat their wives is disgusting to say the least. What most people fail to see through is the fact that most things in this bill do not actually defy religion at all, a lot of things are according to shariah standards, at least the same shariah that most mullahs understand. But, is it necessary? No. Do we need this bill? Definitely not. Do we even need this Council? Hardly. And it’s extremely ironic how this Council’s religion is always revolving around women.

I could name a million things in this state that have no Islamic basis at all, if we are really going to go that way, why not have compulsory beards for all men, and then we should also ban hanging and start beheading prisoners instead. But no, it is only women that need straightening out, according to CII. For the past few days countless religious scholars have argued on Talk-shows about how nothing in the bill is against Islam or in anyway antiwomen; in fact, it is all for mere protection of the gender. Do they fail to understand this society at all? Can they not see how illiterate and ignorant these masses are? When you allow a man to beat his wife lightly, firstly, who defines ‘lightly’ for them. Secondly, you keep quoting Quran but does anybody bother explaining it to these illiterate masses? This society is not ready for this ridiculous bill, and they definitely do not need it, in fact even CII is pretty useless.
