Effective disaster management urged

Pakistan Observer - - KASHMIR -

A.H.RAO MIRPUR (AJK)—Losses from natural catastrophes at either side of the Line of Control in Kashmir have demonstrated that safety and rehabilitation measures have been inadequate in the past to deal effectively with calamities.

Since disasters can aggravate the pre- existing religious, social and political conflicts in disputed regions like Kashmir, the implementation of effective disaster management mechanisms will not only help in saving human lives but will also contribute to build harmony and confidence among the inhabitants of this region.

This has been stated by Shafat Ahmad in his policy brief entitled, “Bridging Divides: Towards Effective Disaster Preparedness and Response in Kashmir”, published by Kashmir Initiative Group (KIG)
