Pun­jab Blues, KP Colours to lock horns in U-18 hockey fi­nal

ISLAMABAD—Pun­jab Blues will lock horns with KPK Colours in the fi­nal of in­au­gu­ral Na­tional Un­der 18 Hockey Cham­pi­onship 2016 af­ter de­feat­ing their re­spec­tive op­po­nents in the semi­fi­nals here at Naseer Bunda In­ter­na­tional Hockey Sta­dium on Tues­day.

In the first semi­fi­nal hot favourites Pun­jab Blues de­feated Pun­jab colours 32 in a thrilling con­test.

Pun­jab Colours got the lead in the 32nd minute of first half when Ali Aziz scored first goal of the match. Ten min­utes later, he scored an­other splendid goal, giv­ing 2-0 lead to his team.

But Pun­jab Blues bounced back im­me­di­ately when Wasim Akram net­ted first goal for them in the 35th minute of the match. Ali scored an­other goal for them in the 43rd minute to equal­ize the match.

Both the teams tried hard to score more goals but it was Ilyas of Pun­jab Blues, who fi­nally scored a re­mark­able goal in the 57th minute. Pun­jab Colours got three plenty cor­ners in the space of 2 min­utes, but re­mained un­able to make come­back.

In the sec­ond semi­fi­nal, KPK Colours out­classed Pun­jab Whites 5-1 on plenty shootouts. Pun­jab, who got off a fly­ing start, with Waqas Ali scor­ing first goal for them in the sec­ond minute of the first quar­ter re­mained un­lucky to win the match.

KPK strik­ers cre­ated sev­eral chances but failed to take ad­van­tage. It was Zakir, who scored a stun­ning re­verse goal for them and lev­eled the match 1-1.

The match was de­cided on plenty shootouts. KPK man­aged to score four goals on five shootouts, while Pun­jab Whites per­for­mance was ex­act op­po­site to that as they scored just one on five shootouts. The fi­nal will be played on Wed­nes­day at 5:00 pm.—APP
