CPEC to be a gamechanger in region: Qayyum

Pakistan Observer - - NATIONAL -

LAHORE—Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) Senator Lt-Gen (Retd) Abdul Qayyum Thursday said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was imperative for development of Pakistan and will prove to be a game changer in the region.

Talking to APP, he said the CPEC would benefit the whole region, adding that under the CPEC, new link roads and tunnels would be constructed. “This corridor has great importance for China as well and it will shorten distances between the linked countries.”

The project will benefit the Western part of China and even India and Afghanistan will also get benefits from this project. Pakistan wants sustain- able relations with its neighbouring countries, Qayyum said.

He said China and Pakistan had deep ties and they had a relation of mutual confidence. Since the inception of Pakistan, the relations between the two neighbouring countries had been going strong, he added.

He said the heavy investment of China in Pakistan showed Beijing’s interest in Pakistan, adding that this investment is a proof of deep and strong ties between the two countries. The CPEC would change the face of the region and increase the volume of exports as Gwadar port is the most suitable route of trade for Central Asian countries, he added.
