World Model Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute in­au­gu­rated at NUML

Pak­istan Academy of Let­ters (PAL) will or­ga­nize two-day Weekly book bazaar here at premises of Academy from Fri­day. The pub­lish­ers and book sell­ers of twin cities of Is­lam­abad and Rawalpindi will set up their stalls at weekly book bazaar. The bazaar would be started at 9 am and con­clude on 7 pm. IS­LAM­ABAD—World Model Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute was in­au­gu­rated at the Na­tional Univer­sity of Mod­ern lan­guages (NUML), on Thurs­day.

Deputy Di­rec­tor Han­ban China and rep­re­sen­ta­tive of Con­fu­cius Head­quar­ters Mr. Shao Xubo in­au­gu­rated the state of the art Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute.

Rec­tor NUML Ma­jor Gen­eral Zia Ud Din Na­jam (Retd), Ms. Xia Jian­hui, Mr Zheng Menglin, Cul­tural Coun­selor Chi­nese Em­bassy Mr. Zheng Guo­jin, Di­rec­tor Gen­eral NUML Brig Riaz Ahmed Gon­dal, Deans, Direc­tors, Heads of Depart­ment and large num­ber of stu­dents at­tended the cer­e­mony.

First ever Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute in any Mus­lim Coun­try was estab­lished in Is­lam­abad in 2005 at NUML. Since 2005 Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute Is­lam­abad had been de­clared “Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute of Year” for four times and in De­cem­ber 2015 it had been de­clared Model Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute of the Year by the Con­fu­cius Head­quar­ters China.

Speak­ing on the os­sas­sion, Deputy Di­rec­tor Han­ban Mr. Shao Xubo said that Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute Is­lam­abad was play­ing a vi­tal role in pro­mot­ing Chi­nese lan­guage and cul­ture to bring the peo­ple of both the coun­tries closer.

He said that lan­guage was the only key which could build the long last­ing re­la­tions and af­ter start­ing of China Pak­istan Eco­nomic Cor­ri­dor (CPEC), the im­por­tance of lan­guage and cul­tural in­sti­tute was in­creased.

“Han­ban will as­sist Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute Is­lam­abad in ev­ery re­spect and no stone will be left un­turned in this re­gard”, he said.

Rec­tor NUML, Ma­jor Gen­eral Zia Ud Din Na­jam in his re­marks ap­plauded the role of Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Han­ban and Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Con­fu­cius Head­quar­ters Madam Xu Lin in es­tab­lish­ment of the Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute.

He said that with­out her help and per­sonal in­ter­est, Con­fu­cius In­sti­tute would never achieve such heights. He fur­ther said that in recog­ni­tion of her ser­vices for pro­mot­ing Chi­nese lan­guage, lit­er­a­ture and her­itage and in ap­pre­ci­a­tion of her ser­vices to­wards strength­en­ing of cor­dial and friendly re­la­tions be­tween the two coun­tries, the Board of Gover­nors of NUML has re­solved to con­fer the de­gree of Doc­tor­ate of Lit­er­a­ture upon Madam Xu Lin.

Deputy Di­rec­tor Han­ban Mr. Shao Xubo re­ceived the de­gree on the be­half of Madam Xu Lin who was un­able to at­tend the cer­e­mony due to her pre oc­cu­pied com­mit­ments.
