Amir Khan of­fers train­ing to po­lice team

KARACHI—The Bri­tish Boxer Mr. Amir Khan of­fered to pro­vide train­ing to Boxing Team and com­man­dos of Spe­cial Se­cu­rity Unit Sindh Po­lice. This he said dur­ing visit to Head­quar­ters of SSU here to­day.

Mr. Maq­sood Ahmed, Com­man­dant SSU, briefed the in­ter­na­tional celebrity about the func­tions and re­spon­si­bil­i­ties of Spe­cial Se­cu­rity Unit.

The Com­man­dant SSU of­fered the Bri­tish boxer max­i­mum sup­port and co­op­er­a­tion for his ef­forts to pro­mote am­a­teur boxing in the coun­try as well as in set­ting up an Academy in Karachi.

The Com­man­dant in­formed that the SSU is Pak­istan’s first and only ISO cer­ti­fied Counter Ter­ror­ism Or­ga­ni­za­tion. The coun­try’s only Spe­cial Weapons and Tac­tics (S.W.A.T) force is also part of the SSU which is ready round the clock to meet any chal­lenges, he added.

The 2004 Athens Olympics sil­ver medal­ist in­formed that he plans to es­tab­lish a boxing academy in Karachi to pro­mote am­a­teur boxing and con­sid­ered to bring coaches from Bri­tain and other places to train box­ers.

Mr. Maq­sood Ahmed ap­pre­ci­ated the ef­forts of the Bri­tish boxer Mr. Amir Khan for re­viv­ing boxing in the coun­try and said that there is im­mense talent in Pak­istan but there is a need to pro­vide op­por­tu­nity to young­ster for play­ing their in­ter­na­tional role in the field of boxing.

Mr. Amir Khan ex­pressed his deep ap­pre­ci­a­tion for the of­fi­cers and staff of the SSU and its state of pre­pared­ness and es­pe­cially thanked SSU for mak­ing his pres­ence se­cure.
