Chi­nese mil­i­tary team dis­patched to Mali

BEI­JING—The Chi­nese mil­i­tary sent a spe­cial­ist med­i­cal team to Mali on Fri­day to join Chi­nese peace­keep­ers there and help deal with ca­su­al­ties from a Tues­day ter­ror­ist at­tack. Led by a se­nior De­fense Min­istry of­fi­cial, the team will work with the United Na­tions Mul­ti­di­men­sional In­te­grated Sta­bi­liza­tion Mis­sion in Mali (MINUSMA) and the Mali govern­ment to en­sure the safety of peace­keep­ers.8 MINUSMA was at­tacked on Tues­day evening. On Thurs­day, the De­fense Min­istry con­firmed that First Sergeant Shen Lian­gliang, 29, was killed in the at­tack, and an­other five sol­diers were in­jured, in­clud­ing Lieu­tenant Liu Liang, two first sergeants, a sergeant and a cor­po­ral.
