Arthur to reach Pak­istan next week, Sha­har­yar

LA­HORE—Chair­man, Pak­istan Cricket Board, Sha­har­yar M Khan said on Fri­day that head coach Mickey Arthur will hope­fully ar­rive Pak­istan on June 8 to take up his assignment with

“Mickey will not be hav­ing any spe­cific role in the team se­lec­tion but ob­vi­ously as head coach his in­put will be taken on se­lec­tion mat­ter “,he said.

Chair­man PCB said Mickey will be su­per­vis­ing the Pak­istan cricket teams pre se­ries camp at Hamp­shire, in Eng­land.

An­swer­ing a ques­tion, he said Pak­istan team for the tour of Eng­land will be named in a cou­ple of days.

To an­other ques­tion ,he said the fit­ness of opener Muham­mad Hafeez is im­prov­ing and he has joined the skill train­ing camp but the coaches have yet to de­ter­mine his fit­ness level and it is hoped that he will be fit be­fore the tour of Eng­land and will be avail­able for the se­lec­tion.

Sha­har­yar Khan ex­pressed his op­ti­mism that pace bowler, Muham­mad Amir will get the visa of Eng­land to travel with the team and PCB is in touch with the con­cerned quar­ters in this re­gard.

Chair­man PCB con­grat­u­lated the Karachi team for win­ning the U16 ti­tle and said PCB was tak­ing ev­ery mea­sure to pro­mote cricket at grass root level.

“We are in process of chalk­ing out a com­pre­hen­sive plan to re­vive cricket at early level and in the ed­u­ca­tional in­sti­tu­tions from school to univer­sity level “, he said adding “We will soon be im­ple­ment­ing this plan across the coun­try.”

He said in the PCB school cham­pi­onship as many as one thou­sand schools will be par­tic­i­pat­ing which will help in broad­en­ing the base of the game and help­ing the se­lec­tors to find fresh blood to groom it for fu­ture needs.—APP
