Best medical facilities to people top priority: Shehbaz
LAHORE—Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reviewed in detail different steps for provision of quality health facilities to the people of the province through three hours long video conference from London.
Addressing videoconference, the Chief Minister said that service to the ailing humanity is a form of worship. He said that provision of best treatment facilities to the people of the province is our priority. He said that all concerned institutions would have to play their active role for ensuring quality public health facilities. He said that best facilitates of treatment is basic right of the masses and we all have to improve health facilities for the people. He said that there was neither shortage of resources earlier nor will in future for improvement of health sector.
He said that healthcare system would have to be harmonized in accordance with modern demands to come up to the expectations of the masses.
He said that effective monitoring system is vital for continuous supervision of public health facilities. Shehbaz Sharif directed to evolve health management information system as soon as possible. He said that work will have to be carried out on modern lines for providing quality health facilities to the people at teaching hospitals, district and tehsil headquarters hospitals. He said that immediate steps should be taken for improving cleanliness arrangements in the hospitals.
The Chief Minister directed that complete record of medical equipments and machinery should be maintained in the hospitals and their audit work should be completed at the earliest. He said that we all will have to meet the challenge of availability of quality medicines to the patients and every necessary step will be taken in this regard. Shehbaz Sharif said that he will not tolerate business of substandard or spurious medicines and no one will be allowed to play with human lives through this heinous trade.
He directed to take indiscriminate legal action against the persons involved in sale and preparation of substandard and fake drugs as provision of quality medicines to the patients is our responsibility.
He further directed that a comprehensive model should be prepared for disposal of hospitals waste in a proper manner and immediate implementation should be ensured in this regard. He said that immediate report should be presented regarding reorganization of Institute of Public Health.
He said that a comprehensive plan should be evolved for providing quality food in the hospitals. He said that multidimensional steps would have to be taken for improving healthcare services for ensuring quality treatment to the patients. The Chief Minister said that reforms in Provincial Quality Control Board and institutions of Chief Drug Controller are need of the hour, therefore autonomous system be evolved for making both the institutions vibrant and active and final plan based on comprehensive reforms be presented within two weeks.
Secretary Specialized Health and Medical Education and Secretary Primary and Secondary Health gave a detailed briefing regarding provision of quality health facilities to the people of the province.
Advisor Health Kh. Salman Rafiq, Secretary Specialized Health and Medical Education, Secretary Primary and Secondary Health and concerned authorities participated in the meeting through video link from Chief Minister Office.
