Students dis­play works at PIEAS’ Open House

ZUBAIR QURESHI ISLAMABAD—Pak­istan In­sti­tute of En­gi­neer­ing and Ap­plied Sciences (PIEAS) be­ing run un­der the aegis of Pak­istan Atomic En­ergy Com­mis­sion (PAEC), Mon­day or­ga­nized an “Open House” at its cam­pus in Nilore, Islamabad.

This was the 4th Open House or­ga­nized at Pak­istan In­sti­tute of En­gi­neer­ing and Ap­plied Sciences (PIEAS) by the Of­fice of Re­search, In­no­va­tion and Com­mer­cial­iza­tion (ORIC) in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Depart­ment of Elec­tri­cal En­gi­neer­ing and Depart­ment of Me­chan­i­cal En­gi­neer­ing.

A to­tal of 34 fi­nal year projects were dis­played along with some stalls from the in­dus­try and pub­lic sec­tor or­ga­ni­za­tion. Fif­teen projects by BS Elec­tri­cal En­gi­neer­ing students and nine­teen projects by BS Me­chan­i­cal En­gi­neer­ing students were ex­hib­ited.

In the event, dif­fer­ent in­tel­lec­tu­als, in­dus­try pro­fes­sion­als and students par­tic­i­pated in large num­bers. The event com­prised of the project dis­plays of BS Elec­tri­cal En­gi­neer­ing and Me­chan­i­cal En­gi­neer­ing students pro­vid­ing them with an op­por­tu­nity of on spot in­ter­views with po­ten­tial em­ploy­ers be­sides show­ing their cre­ativ­ity. The fac­ulty of PIEAS was also avail­able for fur­ther healthy co­op­er­a­tion and dis­cus­sion.

A large num­ber of pro­fes­sion­als from in­dus­try and govern­ment sec­tor or­ga­ni­za­tions par­tic­i­pated in the ac­tiv­ity. The cre­ative work of the students im­pressed all vis­i­tors. The projects cov­er­ing the area such as power elec­tron­ics, bio med­i­cal en­gi­neer­ing, con­trol, com­mu­ni­ca­tion, ther­mal hy­draulics and au­to­mo­tive en­gi­neer­ing were dis­played. The prod­ucts de­vel­oped were of high stan­dard and ex­hib­ited the in­no­va­tion po­ten­tial at the best in­sti­tu­tion in Pak­istan.

The event was man­aged by Dr. M. Tayyeb Javed, through his per­sis­tent ef­forts at PIEAS to in­cul­cate the en­tre­pre­neur­ial mind­set in Pak­istani youth and to de­velop mean­ing­ful univer­sity in­dus­try link­ages. Dr. M. Javed Hy­der, Di­rec­tor ORIC; Dr. Nasir Ma­jid Mirza, Pro - Rec­tor and se­nior man­age­ment of PAEC have been very sup­port­ive and a source of in­spi­ra­tion for a re­newed ef­fort in build­ing an in­te­grated com­mu­nity.

The vis­i­tors took keen in­ter­est in the projects on dis­play and ap­pre­ci­ated the cre­ative ef­forts of the PIEAS grad­u­ates.
