AAUR sub­cam­pus to be es­tab­lished at Man­dra

ISLAMABAD—Par­lia­men­tary Secretary Cabi­net Sec­re­tar­iat Raja Muham­mad Javed Ikhlas has said that sub-cam­pus of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agri­cul­ture Univer­sity Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) would be es­tab­lished in Man­dra for pro­vid­ing op­por­tu­nity to students of the area. Dif­fer­ent de­gree pro­grammes will be of­fered in the Cam­put with spe­cial em­pha­sis on sub­jects re­lated to agri­cul­ture, Raja Ikhlas said this while ad­dress­ing at An­nual Din­ner or­ga­nized by students of the PMASAAUR, said a press re­lease is­sued by the Univer­sity here on Mon­day.

On the oc­ca­sion, Univer­sity’s Vice Chan­cel­lor Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ah­mad, Deans of var­i­ous fac­ul­ties, Direc­tors, fac­ulty mem­bers and a large num­ber of students were also present.

Javed Ikhlas said that the pro­vin­cial govern­ment un­der the lead­er­ship of Chief Min­is­ter Mian Muham­mad Shah­baz Sharif was tak­ing keen in­ter­est in the de­vel­op­ment of higher ed­u­ca­tion fa­cil­i­ties to the youth es­pe­cially living in far flung ar­eas of the prov­ince. Potho­har re­gion has a po­ten­tial of high agri­cul­tural pro­duc­tiv­ity due to the highly skilled farm­ing com­mu­nity, he said.

He ap­pre­ci­ated Univer­sity Model Re­search Farm hav­ing drip/sprin­kler ir­ri­ga­tion sys­tem for or­chards, tun­nel farm­ing and rain­wa­ter har­vest­ing which was an ex­am­ple for the farm­ers of the area. Javed Ikhlas sug­gested the lo­cal farm­ing com­mu­nity to adopt th­ese new tech­niques in agri­cul­ture to get max­i­mum out­put. photo by Sul­tan Bashir
