Sep­a­ratists un­der cus­tody, ad­mits IHK IGP

SRINAGAR—Kash­mir po­lice chief Syed Javid Mu­jtaba Gil­lani has ad­mit­ted that the sep­a­ratist lead­ers have been “taken into pre­ven­tive cus­tody so that peace in the Val­ley is not dis­turbed.”

Talk­ing to me­dia Mon­day, the In­spec­tor Gen­eral of Po­lice (Kash­mir Range) said: “Yasin Ma­lik has been ar­rested as there is a case against him. As far as de­ten­tion of rest of sep­a­ratists is con­cerned, they have been taken into pre­ven­tive cus­tody to en­sure peace is not dis­turbed.” Gil­lani was re­act­ing to a query why sep­a­ratist lead­ers are not be­ing re­leased from jails or house-de­ten­tions.

Mean­while, on its part, the sep­a­ratist camp Sun­day ac­cused the J&K govern­ment and po­lice of feel­ing un­nerved by the “united re­sis­tance” of pro-free­dom camp against New Delhi’s “ne­far­i­ous de­signs of chang­ing the de­mog­ra­phy
