PIA signs con­tract for con­ver­sion of plas­tic pack­ag­ing

MIAN ARSHAD ISLAMABAD—Pak­istan International Air­lines (PIA) here on Mon­day signed a three year con­tract with Busi­ness Dy­nam­ics (PVT) Ltd exclusive dis­trib­u­tors of d2w for Sym­phony En­vi­ron­men­tal Lim­ited, for con­ver­sion of its nor­mal plas­tic pack­ag­ing into oxo- biodegrad­able plas­tics. Di­rec­tor Pro­cure­ment and Lo­gis­tics Air Com­modore Im­ran Akhtar Khan signed the con­tract on be­half of PIA whereas Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor Busi­ness Dy­nam­ics (Pvt) lim­ited Amir Younus signed from Busi­ness Dy­nam­ics’s side. Oxo-biodegrad­able plas­tic is con­ven­tional poly­olefin plas­tic to which small amounts of salts have been added.

Talk­ing to me­dia af­ter the sign­ing event Air Com­modore Im­ran Akhtar said that PIA has taken lead by be­com­ing a role model for other air­lines by adopt­ing green pack­ag­ing in their prod­ucts and “say­ing no to plas­tic pol­lu­tion and yes to best solution for plas­tic pol­lu­tion”. “This way PIA can achieve pos­i­tive im­pacts and en­hance their im­age not only na­tion­ally but in­ter­na­tion­ally as well,” he said. He said that af­ter be­ing “Green Air­line” will help in re­duc­tion of car­bon foot­prints and will play a ma­jor role in pro­tec­tion of the en­vi­ron­ment and sus­tain­abil­ity for bet­ter to­mor­row. It will achieve its so­cio eco­nomic and en­vi­ron­men­tal goal.”

He said that this is the best way for the re­duc­tion of waste man­age­ment, lit­ter­ing is one of the core area and plas­tic take decades to de­grade by shift­ing to d2w pack­ag­ing this plas­tic will de­grade in its pro­posed time. Amir Younus said that Busi­ness Dy­nam­ics (Pvt) Ltd will be sup­port­ing PIA in en­vi­ron­ment re­lated sem­i­nars, walks, con­fer­ence and so­cial cam­paign re­gard­ing aware­ness of pol­lu­tion among gen­eral pub­lic.
