A bloated budget
Genuine economists and development experts term this fourth consecutive fiscal budget of the PML(N) government, as “bloated”, “remittance-based” and “exaggerated”, with collapsed agriculture and destroyed infrastructure. Had it been a budget in the earnest sense, then its makers and developers would have been with a clear objective to diversify the economy and use the expected economic gains to increase the welfare of the country, including by reducing youth unemployment and extreme poverty.
Infrastructure spending always revives economic growth and helps create jobs in a number of sectors but our rulers also flatly fail in this area. The government also does nothing to allocate the desired resources in education, health and security to foster human development. All such things happen in bloated budgets prepared by vision-less financial managers. —Islamabad
