PPP endores growth in services sector
ISLAMABAD—Senior members of Pakistan People Party (PPP) on Tuesday endorsed remarkable growth in the services sector during current fiscal year and relief package for farmers announced in the budget for the year 2016-17.
“We also support the government for strengthening democracy and democratic institutions to pro-mote democratic values in the country,” former Finance Minister Syed Naveed Qamar and Chairman of Senate Committee of Finance and Revenue Saleem Mandviwala said at a joint press conference held here at Sindh House.
Naveed Qamar said the growth of services and few other sectors in the current fiscal year was remarkable. The agriculture sector was the backbone of the country’s economy and there was a need to allocate more resources for it to achieve food security, he added.
He also underlined a need for proper utilization of Kissan package and asked the government to evolve a proper strategy for utilization of funds for the development of agriculture sector.
The PPP leader also stressed a need to work on energy sector for sustainable growth in industrial and agriculture sectors. He demanded more subsidy for growth in agriculture sector and urged to further lower fertilizer prices to encourage farmers for more produce.—APP
