PPP en­dores growth in ser­vices sec­tor

ISLAMABAD—Se­nior mem­bers of Pak­istan Peo­ple Party (PPP) on Tues­day en­dorsed re­mark­able growth in the ser­vices sec­tor dur­ing cur­rent fis­cal year and re­lief pack­age for farm­ers an­nounced in the bud­get for the year 2016-17.

“We also sup­port the govern­ment for strength­en­ing democ­racy and demo­cratic in­sti­tu­tions to pro-mote demo­cratic val­ues in the coun­try,” for­mer Fi­nance Min­is­ter Syed Naveed Qa­mar and Chair­man of Se­nate Com­mit­tee of Fi­nance and Rev­enue Saleem Mand­vi­wala said at a joint press con­fer­ence held here at Sindh House.

Naveed Qa­mar said the growth of ser­vices and few other sec­tors in the cur­rent fis­cal year was re­mark­able. The agri­cul­ture sec­tor was the back­bone of the coun­try’s econ­omy and there was a need to al­lo­cate more re­sources for it to achieve food se­cu­rity, he added.

He also un­der­lined a need for proper uti­liza­tion of Kis­san pack­age and asked the govern­ment to evolve a proper strat­egy for uti­liza­tion of funds for the de­vel­op­ment of agri­cul­ture sec­tor.

The PPP leader also stressed a need to work on en­ergy sec­tor for sus­tain­able growth in in­dus­trial and agri­cul­ture sec­tors. He de­manded more sub­sidy for growth in agri­cul­ture sec­tor and urged to fur­ther lower fer­til­izer prices to en­cour­age farm­ers for more pro­duce.—APP
