APNS body thanks govt for ac­cept­ing me­dia in­dus­try pro­pos­als in bud­get

KARACHI—The All Pak­istan News­pa­pers So­ci­ety (APNS) ex­pressed its pro­found grat­i­tude to the Fi­nance Min­is­ter, Se­na­tor Ishaq Dar, Ad­vi­sor to the Prime Min­is­ter on Rev­enue, Ha­roon Akhtar and the Chair­man, Fed­eral Board of Rev­enue for ac­cept­ing pro­pos­als of me­dia in­dus­try for the new bud­get.

Mr Umer Mu­jib Shami, Sec­re­tary Gen­eral, APNS an­nounc­ing the de­ci­sions taken at the Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee meet­ing held on June 05, 2016 un­der the chair­man­ship of its Pres­i­dent, Sar­mad Ali, stated that the Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee was briefed on the meet­ing of APNS and PBA held with the Fi­nance Min­is­ter wherein the pro­pos­als of the me­dia in­dus­try for the new bud­get was thor­oughly dis­cussed.

The Fi­nance Min­is­ter, Se­na­tor Ishaq Dar, Mr Ha­roon Akhtar, Ad­vi­sor to the Prime Min­is­ter on Rev­enue and the Chair­man, FBR pas­sion­ately con­sid­ered the pro­pos­als and very kindly agreed to with­draw the pro­posed Sales Tax on news­pa­pers, not to en­hance the Cus­tom Duty on im­port of newsprint for APNS mem­ber pub­li­ca­tions and fix­ing the With­hold­ing Tax for me­dia in­dus­try @ 1.5% un­der the FTR Regime. The Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee ex­pressed its thanks to the Fed­eral Govern­ment and ap­pre­ci­ated the ef­forts of APNS Of­fice Bear­ers to bailout the in­dus­try from the bur­den of pro­posed taxes.

The Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee meet­ing was joined by Rao Tehseen Ali Khan, Prin­ci­pal In­for­ma­tion Of­fi­cer and briefed that the payment against the dues for de­volved min­istries and old out­stand­ing bills were in the process of payment which will ma­ture by the end of the cur­rent month.

The Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee con­sid­ered the ap­pli­ca­tions for as­so­ciate mem­ber­ship and de­cided to grant mem­ber­ship to Weekly Eco­nomic World, La­hore, Daily Sama, Islamabad and Weekly Taqat In­ter­na­tional, La­hore The meet­ing was at­tended by the fol­low­ing :
