Dr Asim seeks Canadian support for his release
KARACHI—Former federal minister Dr Asim Hussain who is also a Canadian national, has sought the Canadian government’s help to seek his release from persistent imprisonment. On his request the acting Canadian High Commissioner came to Karachi from Islamabad to meet him and know details of being in Rangers custody.
A debate had started here whether the Canadian diplomat can really interfere in criminal cases of such serious nature as massive corruption, and embezzlement of government funds. Dr Asim, a close friend of former President and PPP leader Asif Zardari, is charged with embezzling Rs 452 billion through illegal land grabbing, and unauthorised allotment of plots in several city areas.
