A commendable decision

Pakistan Observer - - OPINION - WAJIHA MASUD

The bill presented by Law Minister Rana Sanaullah prohibits ostentatious celebrations across the Province of Punjab. According to the bill, a person organizing the marriage shall not decorate streets, roads or public parks or any other place other than the building. The marriage site shall ensure conclusion of all ceremonies relating to marriage on or before 10:00 pm. Moreover, more than one dish will not be allowed.

If any person violates any of the sections, he will be guilty of an offence punishable with simple imprisonment and fine not less than 50,000. Step taken by Punjab Government is really appreciable and admirable, which may result in less marriage break-ups and discriminations. Hope to have such laws passed in Assemblies and implemented by government, all over Pakistan. —Via email
