Deputy Com­mis­sion­ers start im­ple­ment­ing elec­toral code of con­duct

MIRPUR (AJK)—Deputy Com­mis­sion­ers of all AJK dis­tricts have started get­ting im­ple­mented the code of con­duct an­nounced by Election Com­mis­sion of AJK.

Deputy Com­mis­sioner Kotli Thurs­day pre­sid­ing over a meet­ing of lo­cal lead­ers of the po­lit­i­cal par­ties, ad­vised to en­sure their due role for hold­ing of the sched­uled polls to the AJK Legislative Assem­bly in a free, fair and trans­par­ent man­ner.

The meet­ing reviewed var­i­ous as­pects of the im­ple­men­ta­tion of the elec­toral code of con­duct in let­ter and spirit.

The Deputy Com­mis­sioner in­formed the au­di­ence that ev­ery con­tes­tant can­di­date would have to take prior per­mis­sion from the Deputy Com­mis­sioner for hold­ing only one ma­jor pub­lic meet­ing in his or her con­stituency.

It may be added that ac­cord­ing to the sched­ule, an­nounced by the AJK Election Com­mis­sion, the nom­i­na­tion papers would be filed on June 16.

The can­di­dates will not be al­lowed to get in to the of­fices of their re­spec­tive Re­turn­ing Of­fi­cers with a group of their sup­port­ers while mov­ing for fil­ing of the nom­i­na­tion papers. Scru­tiny of the na­tional papers will be con­ducted the next day.

Ap­peals against ac­cep­tance or re­jec­tion of papers would be re­ceived on June 22 and their hear­ing will be held on June 23 and 24.

De­ci­sions on these ap­peals will be an­nounced on June 25 and 26. The can­di­dates could with­draw their nom­i­na­tion papers on June 27 and fi­nal list of can­di­dates will be dis­played on June 28 and election sym­bols will be al­lot­ted on June 29.

There are 2,237,058 vot­ers in­clud­ing 1,211,842 men and 1,025,216 women in ten dis­tricts of AJK.

For stip­u­lated 12 con­stituen­cies of Pak­istan­based Jammu Kash­mir refugees, a to­tal of 444,634 vot­ers will be en­ti­tled to ex­er­cise their right to fran­chise in the polls.—APP
