Deputy Commissioners start implementing electoral code of conduct
MIRPUR (AJK)—Deputy Commissioners of all AJK districts have started getting implemented the code of conduct announced by Election Commission of AJK.
Deputy Commissioner Kotli Thursday presiding over a meeting of local leaders of the political parties, advised to ensure their due role for holding of the scheduled polls to the AJK Legislative Assembly in a free, fair and transparent manner.
The meeting reviewed various aspects of the implementation of the electoral code of conduct in letter and spirit.
The Deputy Commissioner informed the audience that every contestant candidate would have to take prior permission from the Deputy Commissioner for holding only one major public meeting in his or her constituency.
It may be added that according to the schedule, announced by the AJK Election Commission, the nomination papers would be filed on June 16.
The candidates will not be allowed to get in to the offices of their respective Returning Officers with a group of their supporters while moving for filing of the nomination papers. Scrutiny of the national papers will be conducted the next day.
Appeals against acceptance or rejection of papers would be received on June 22 and their hearing will be held on June 23 and 24.
Decisions on these appeals will be announced on June 25 and 26. The candidates could withdraw their nomination papers on June 27 and final list of candidates will be displayed on June 28 and election symbols will be allotted on June 29.
There are 2,237,058 voters including 1,211,842 men and 1,025,216 women in ten districts of AJK.
For stipulated 12 constituencies of Pakistanbased Jammu Kashmir refugees, a total of 444,634 voters will be entitled to exercise their right to franchise in the polls.—APP
