Wear helmet or pay fine

Pakistan Observer - - OPINION - RIDA ZAHEER

There are more than 20 million motorcycles on the roads of the ‘city of lights’. According to a news item it has been made mandatory that the riders should also wear helmets. Critics and sceptics do not agree to this regulation; and decry it vehemently. They say it is impractical and against the climatic conditions of the city, and would open new window for police corruption.

I think it is a good law and must be implemented in letter and spirit. We have all sorts of laws on the statutory books, which are never implemented. We cannot derive benefits from these legal measure meant for people’s safety. All the riders be aware of the new regulation or get ready to pay fine. It is a protective law and meant to avoid injuries sustained in the accidents. We must appreciate the law. —Karachi
