PML-N, JKPPP agree to continue electoral alliance

Pakistan Observer - - KASHMIR -

HAMEED SHAHEEN ISLAMABAD—Talks here late Thursday between Dr Asif Kirmani, Special Political Assistant to Prime Minister of Pakistan and Sardar Khalid Ibrahim, President JKPP, succeeded in continuing political alliance between their political parties. Kirmani later indicated that his party could also strike understanding with other like minded parties on seats adjustment formula, but did not elaborate.

In a statement Dr Kirmani clarified that his talks with Sardar Khalid Ibrahim were positive. It was decided that this two-party alliance would continue also in forthcoming AJK general elections. However, other related matters are to be finalized for which a six-member committee from both sides has been constituted on spot. The committee comprises Shah Ghulam Qadir, Dr Najib Naqi and Pir Syed Ali Raza Bukhari from PML-N, and Syed Nishat Kazmi, Justice retired Sardar Nawaz and Zahid Akram advocate from JKPP.

The committee would meet soon to settle nitty gritty of the electorial alliance. With other political parties having positive views would also be made arrangement for seat to seat adjustment, Kirmani said.

Meanwhile, there appears intense electoral heat among political parties of AJK. Muslim Conference headed by Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan and PTI led by Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry have already entered into polls agreement. Azad Kashmiri youth seem very enthusiastic and assertive to deliver their youthful strength in the coming polls to be held on July 21, 2016.

Keeping the past ground experiences, election of any tier whether local or or Assembly are fought on the basis of biraderi/ clans. Although to some extent it is also a pattern of positivism but it has shattered the social unitariness in the State which can be future force for use in the ongoing Kashmir struggle in occupied Kashmir. The people of occupied have focused their eyes on the outcome July 21, 2016, general elections in Azad Kashmir. AJK is a moral strength for them, a voice to raise their woes at the regional and international level.
