PPA providing subsidy on eggs, chicken in Ramazan Bazaars
SALIM AHMED LAHORE—Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) NZ Chairman Rai Mansab Ali Kharal has announced to provide poultry products at subsidized rates at all Ramazan Bazaars set up in 36 districts of the province. The sale of subsidized chicken and eggs has already been started from first of Ramazan, with poultry chicken prices reduced by Rs10 per kg, eggs rates cut by Rs5 per dozen against the rates of open market.
Rai Mansab Ali Kharal said that with the advent of holy month of Ramazan, the profiteers try to hoard daily kitchen items in order to mint money. That is why the PPA has decided to join hands with the Punjab government to facilitate the public by providing poultry products at subsidized prices in Ramazan Bazaars. He assured the government that PPA will provide subsidy of Rs10 a kg on chicken and Rs5 on eggs throughout the province, as compared to the open market. He said that as a result of reduction in poultry and chicken rates in Ramazan Bazaars, even those districts would also benefit where there is negligible production of poultry.
The PPA chairman, on this occasion, said the poultry sector is one of the most organised agro-based sectors of Pakistan. He said poultry sector had been serving the nation since 962 and providing affordable poultry products to the masses to fulfil the requirements of animal protein. Poultry at present contributes 40 percent of the total meat consumption and generates employment and income for about fifteen hundred thousands people. He appreciated the Punjab CM Shehbaz Sharif and Secretary Livestock Nasim Sadiq to establish Ramazan Bazars. He added that Poultry Association was regularly paying subsidy to the shopkeepers. He said that PPA convener of Ramazan Bazars Tariq Javed is monitoring the sale of subsidized eggs and chickens in all bazars.
He said that besides provincial government agencies the PPA’s own monitoring teams are continuously on visiting the Ramazan Bazaars to check the true implementation of PPA and Punjab government agreement, under which the Association is supplying stock of chicken and eggs to Ramazan Bazaars at subsidized rates.
