Rizwan changes state­ment, says con­fes­sion of mur­der was made un­der duress

KARACHI—Rizwan, ar­rested for al­legedly mur­der­ing his wife Haleema, went back on his words be­fore a court Fri­day, say­ing he had made the con­fes­sion un­der po­lice duress, and af­ter be­ing threaten about the safety of lives of his present wife and child.

Rizwan, ac­cord­ing to po­lice, which had ar­rested him from su­per high­way on Tues­day, had stated to have con- firmed killing Haleema whose son is now in Edhi Cen­tre,

How­ever when he was pro­duced be­fore a court Fri­day morn­ing , he made a 180de­gree turn around , say­ing he was forced to ad­mit the crime be­cause of

Un­der Pak­istani crim­i­nal law, an ac­cused can dis­own ear­lier con­fes­sions be­fore a ju­di­cial of­fi­cer, which, as ex­pected Rizwan did.

He said he had left his son po­lice method­ol­ogy. to shel­ter house, af­ter hear­ing in the me­dia about the re­cov­ery of his sec­ond wife’s body.

He said he was in­no­cent and feared for life, which if hap­pened, he would blame the su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice of the area.
