IIUI promoting unity, faith in the country
ISLAMABAD—International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) President Dr Ahmed Yousif AlDraiweesh and Rector Prof Dr Masoom Yasinzai has hosted an Iftar dinner in honour of journalists.
The dinner - Interaction with Media - held at the Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue, Faisal Masjid campus of the university, was also attended by Senators Shibli Faraz of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and Shahi Syed of Awami National Party, APP Managing Director Masood Malik, former President National Press Club Afzal Butt, anchorperson Salim Safi, AIOU Vice Chancellaor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui, IIUI deans, directors and other officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Al-Draiweesh said the university had a tradition to hold such gatherings in every Ramzan as it gave an opportunity to further promote peace, brotherhood and love among Muslims.
The university was not only impart education, but it was also promoting unity and faith in the country, he added.
He said the IIUI was working to establish a society, which should be based on peace and prosperity. He spoke on the importance of the holy month of Ramzan.
He also asked the journalist community to focus on the promotion of education and dissemination of messages of peace.
Earlier, Dr Masoom Yasinzai, in his speech, highlighted the achievements of Prof Dr Mumtaz Ahmad (late), an analyst and researcher, saying that this Iftar dinner was arranged to pay homage to him.
He said the university was playing a pivotal role in bringing peace and unity among Muslims. It was striving hard to portray the soft image of the Islam to the world, he added.
Other speakers at the event also hailed the meritorious services of Dr Mumtaz and urged the participants to follow his vision. They also urged the IIUI to play its due role for eliminating terrorism and extremism from the country. Executive Director IRD Husnul Amin, in is opening remarks, shed light on the life of Dr Mumtaz.—APP
