Vit­tinghus, Jeon in Aus­tralian Open fi­nal

SYD­NEY—Den­mark’s Han­sKris­tian Vit­tinghus will play South Korean Jeon Hyeok-jin in the fi­nal of the Aus­tralian Bad­minton Open af­ter con­trast­ing vic­to­ries in Syd­ney on Satur­day.

Den­mark’s Hans-Kris­tian Vit­tinghus will con­test the Aus­tralian Open Bad­minton fi­nal in Syd­ney af­ter beat­ing Srikanth Ki­dambi 22-20, 21-13 on June 11, 2016.

The sea­soned Vit­tinghus sur­vived a tight open­ing game to ac­count for In­dia’s Srikanth Ki­dambi 22-20, 21-13 in the first semi-fi­nal of the men’s sin­gles.

But South Korea’s Jeon needed three games over al­most 70 min­utes be­fore sub­du­ing In­done­sia’s An­thony Sin­isuka Gint­ing 21-19, 16-21, 21-19.

The 19-year-old Gint­ing up­set Chi­nese world No.2 and top seed Chen Long on Fri­day to reach the semi-fi­nals.

Vit­tinghus, 30, ranked 12, was a mem­ber of the vic­to­ri­ous Dan­ish team of the Thomas Cup in Kun­shan in China last month and now gets his chance of win­ning the last Su­per­series event be­fore the Rio Olympics.

In­dia’s Saina Ne­hwal will play China’s Sun Yu in Sun­day’s women’s sin­gles fi­nal.—AFP
