FIA launches money-laun­der­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tion against MQM

KARACHI—Fed­eral In­ves­ti­ga­tion Agency (FIA) on Monday launched money-laun­der­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tion against Mut­tahida Qaumi Move­ment (MQM).

The FIA of­fi­cials have pulled their socks up against MQM in money laun­der­ing case as they have ini­ti­ated probe to make the party ac­count­able over al­le­ga­tions.

Ac­cord­ing to a pri­vate TV chan­nel, in­ter­ro­ga­tion will be held from var­i­ous lead­ers in­clud­ing MQM chief Altaf Hus­sain and 12 or­ga­ni­za­tions while FIA team has al­ready started sub­mit­ting record in this re­gard.

The ac­tion was launched af­ter get­ting in­for­ma­tion about trans­fer of money abroad through Sun Academy and Sun Char­ity. It was also learnt that such or­ga­ni­za­tions have also been used as a fa­cil­i­ta­tor for other ac­tiv­i­ties.

The of­fi­cials said that about 10 more or­ga­ni­za­tions es­tab­lished in 2005 and 2010 in Karachi are also in­volved with th­ese peo­ple while some con­struc­tion com­pa­nies have also been named in the list that are send­ing money to Lon­don se­cretly.—INP Food be­ing served dur­ing If­tar at Nu­maish Chowrangi, MA Jin­nah Road.—PO photo by Syed Rizwan
