Tarap-Pindigheb sec­tion of Hakla-DIK con­tract ap­proved

IS­LAM­ABAD— Ex­ec­u­tive Board of the Na­tional High­way Author­ity met Tues­day with Chair­man Shahid Ashraf Tarar in the chair to re­view progress on coun­try­wide high­way schemes and var­i­ous fi­nan­cial and ad­min­is­tra­tive af­fairs of the author­ity. The Board, dur­ing the meet­ing, ac­corded ap­proval for award of works for Pindigheb to Tarap (Pack­ageIV) of Hakla-DIKhan Mo­tor­way which is part of western route of China Pak­istan Eco­nomic Cor­ri­dor. 50 km 4-lane sec­tion will be com­pleted in two years at a cost of around Rs. 21 bil­lion.

The meet­ing also re­viewed progress over Takht Bhai Fly­over and desired to ex­pe­dite work for its timely com­ple­tion. This fly­over (600 m) is be­ing com­pleted at cost of Rs. 851 mil­lion and is sched­uled to com­ple by July 2016.

The meet­ing was told that 86% work was com­pleted on re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of Quetta Air­port Road. Chair­man di­rected the con­cerned staff to com­plete the re­main­ing work of this 7.7 km road by next month. Mat­ters re­lated to Has­san­ab­dal-Havelian Ex­press­way, Yarik-Rehmani Khel Sec­tion of Hak­laD.I.Khan Mo­tor­way and up gra­da­tion of N-5 from Thokar Niaz Baig to Hudyiara Drain also came un­der dis­cus­sion dur­ing the meet­ing.

Chair­man NHA, while speak­ing on the oc­ca­sion, said NHA was try­ing to pro­mote lo­cal con­trac­tors by giv­ing them more op­por­tu­ni­ties in road con­struc­tion schemes. He in­formed that a de­tailed plan on re­struc­tur­ing and re-or­ga­ni­za­tion of NHA was pre­pared in or­der to en­hance its per­for­mance. In­ter­nal au­dit sys­tem was strength­ened and ef­forts were made to make the or­ga­ni­za­tion more in­de­pen­dent and self-re­liant.
